The People Empowering People program is a personal and family leadership development program with a strong community focus. PEP builds on the unique strengths and experiences of participants and emphasizes the importance of community interaction. PEP participants learn how to strengthen interpersonal skills such as:
- Values
- Parenting
- Problem Solving
- Community Involvement
- Verbal and Non-verbal Communication
The PEP program includes ten 2-hour weekly training sessions and collaboration on projects that benefit the community.
PEP Program Benefits:
PEP participants experience the power of ‘collective ability’ as they interact with each other and successfully accomplish a community project
PEP participants learn about the needs in their community and develop the necessary skills and confidence for active community involvement
PEP participants learn how to apply their unique talents and gifts to change or enhance their community
PEP participants significantly improved personal strengths, parent/family relationships, and community engagement (based on a study conducted by the University of Connecticut School of Family Studies)
The PEP program was developed twelve years ago by the University of Connecticut Cooperative Extension System. Since then, approximately 1100 participants have donated 3000 hours resulting in more than $65,000.00 in-kind to communities.
